Composite Lining Boards
These represent a relatively simple internal lining solution for enhancing the sound transmission loss of an external wall. The composite lining boards normally comprise an exposed building board facing (such as plasterboard) with a resilient mineral fibre insulation layer backing.
Attachment to the background is normally achieved by means of through mechanical fastening, employed solely or in combination with adhesive dabs. The boards are available with a taper edge joint detail to allow seamless jointing techniques.
Whilst unable to provide the same level of improvement associated with independent frame lining systems, they represent a simple and economical improvement technique and are particularly useful in conditions where only a limited lining depth is available.
As described in the previous section they are assistive in improving ‘flanking transmission' to other internal areas of the building.
