Floor / Wall Closures
Where the curtain wall passes an intermediate floor slab there is normally a requirement to close the void between the edge of the floor slab and the curtain wall system. Invariably such closures are required to act as a fire barrier and additionally accommodate potential deflection of the curtain wall. Siderise offer a number of solutions for this requirement as detailed in the fire solutions for curtain walling section.
The common techniques and constructions employed for creating the void closures generally provide for a sound reduction performance substantially below that offered by the floor slab itself. In consequence, overall sound separation between floors can potentially be compromised or limited.
Siderise have developed a number of techniques and products for improving the performance of the closure detail. Typically this is achieved by the application of a flexible high mass composite material to one or both sides of the fire barrier. The installation of these products can dramatically increase the sound reduction performance of the closure. Against receipt of required dimensional information, our technical department can undertake a guide composite SRI calculation to establish the effect on acoustic performance of the closure detail.
In situations where the curtain wall abutts walls or columns a similar situation can arise. This vertical condition is commonly associated with non-vision regions of the curtain wall.
